In fulfillment of his commitment to ensuring that every child in ONNA Local Government Area, the Executive Chairman, Hon. Kufre Umoren, has donated thousands of exercise books, school bags, and other essential learning materials to pupils across the LGA as part of a back-to-school support initiative.

The event, held in ONNA local government council on Wednesday, drew education stakeholders, appointees of Government and pupils of different schools.

Speaking during the presentation, the Chairman, represented by his wife, Mrs. Precious Kufreabasi Umoren, said the project was designed to ease the financial burden on families and encourage learning among children.

“My husband is passionate about education and has always maintained that it is the right of every child in ONNA. Today, we are providing school bags, books, pens, crayons and pencils to support that vision,” she stated.

Also speaking, the wife of the Paramount Ruler of ONNA, HRM. Unwaowo Raymond Inyang, praised the gesture as unprecedented.

“This is the first time I am witnessing this kind of initiative from ONNA Local Government Council, and I sincerely appreciate the Chairman for it,” she said.

Earlier, while welcoming the attendees, the Supervisor for Education, Hon. Victor Dickson described the initiative as a cornerstone of Hon. Umoren’s administration, highlighting that it was one of his campaign promises to support children with essential learning tools. He commended school heads for their collaboration and reiterated the council’s resolve to prioritize education.

The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) in ONNA, Dr. Samuel Eden, lauded the initiative as being in line with the “Arise Agenda” of Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno. He assured that the materials would be effectively utilized to improve learning outcomes among pupils.

Other speakers at the event included the Vice Chairman of the Council, Lady Mfon Uko; Chairman of the House Committee on Education in the ONNA Legislative Council, Hon. Godwin Ben; and several others, all of whom commended Hon. Umoren’s commitment to advancing education.
