The Executive Chairman of Itu Local Government Council, Hon. Ubong Nkutt, has described the just-concluded anti-corruption workshop organized by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) as a strategic step toward deepening transparency, accountability, and good governance at the grassroots.
Speaking to journalists in Uyo upon his return from the three-day capacity-building workshop in Abuja, Hon. Nkutt lauded the initiative of the Anti‑Corruption Academy of Nigeria (ACAN)—the training arm of the ICPC—for providing a platform that empowers local government officials to embrace integrity in public service.
He affirmed his administration’s readiness to domesticate the principles learned at the workshop in the operations of Itu Local Government Council.
The workshop, themed “Grassroots Transformation: Local Government Transparency and Accountability”, was held from July 21st to 23rd, 2025, at the ICPC headquarters. Joining Hon. Nkutt were top officials of Itu LGA, including the Leader of the Legislative Council, Hon. Godswill David, and the Secretary of Council, Mr. Imoh Okon.
Resource persons at the event reiterated the commission’s zero tolerance for corruption and emphasized the importance of upholding transparency in local administration.
Participants were introduced to the Accountability and Corruption Prevention Programme for Local Government (ACPP‑LG), a proactive strategy designed to curb corruption in Nigeria’s third‑tier governance.
According to Hon. Nkutt, the workshop is part of ICPC’s broader initiative to build institutional resilience and strengthen transparency across local government structures, with the aim of fostering public trust, efficient resource management, and inclusive governance.
