…urges citizens to partake in exercise
The Executive Chairman of Ika Local Government Area, Barr. Utibe Nwoko, has taken his voter sensitisation campaign to churches, calling on citizens to take full advantage of the ongoing registration exercise and obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
The Council Boss made the call on Sunday, August 3, 2025, during a familiarisation outreach across four Catholic churches in the area, including:
- St. Bernard Parish, Nto Udo Enwan
- St. Bernard Parish, Ikot Udom
- St. Patrick Catholic Church, Ika Parish
- St. James Parish, Ikot Osukpong
Addressing congregants, Hon. Nwoko emphasised that political participation begins with registration, describing voting as the most essential civic responsibility in a democratic society.
He revealed plans by the Council to collaborate with traditional rulers, youth groups, community leaders, and religious institutions to ensure the message reaches every household across all wards in the local government area.
Barr. Nwoko urged first-time voters, particularly young people, to seize the opportunity, stating that their involvement is vital in determining the kind of leadership the nation will produce going forward.
The Chairman also supported each of the parishes in Ika Local Government Area in preparation for the Bishop’s visit to the Ikot Ekpene Diocese.
“Your vote is your voice, and registering to vote is your first act of leadership.
To elect credible leaders who will champion our collective interests, every eligible person must be properly registered,” he said.
Beyond civic matters, the Chairman encouraged the Christian faithful to uphold unity and love as exemplified by Jesus Christ, stressing that a loving, united community is the foundation of meaningful development.
In his response, the Dean of Ika Parish, Very Rev. Fr. Moses Ibok, thanked the Chairman for his inclusive leadership and his proactive approach to governance, especially in prioritising security and community development.
