Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno has reassured of the flag-off and construction of the 13.5KM Ibekwe-Akpanya-Ikot Unya-Iffe Town-Ekpuk road in Mkpat Enin Local Government Area of the State. The road traverses through the heartland of Ikpa Ikono and parts of Ibiaku clans in the Local Government Area.

Senator Ekong Sampson, representing Akwa Ibom South in the Senate, conveyed the Governor’s reassurances on the road, while inspecting some of the projects he facilitated to his village, Ikot Unya and to other communities in the locality, recently.

The Lawmaker inspected work progress at the hostel facility he is building at Excellence College – a school he founded in 2014; some water projects, as well as a massive electricity reactivation and extension from Ikot Unya, to the neighbouring Ikot Umiang village. Senator Sampson has equally promised a school bus to Excellence College, and to some other schools in Akwa Ibom South.

Addressing some members of the community after his inspection, Senator Ekong Sampson thanked them for cooperating with contractors handling various projects in the village. He charged the community to own and protect government infrastructure sited in their domain, warning against vandalism.

Senator Sampson lamented that he felt pained that many of the electricity and water projects which he provided in Mkpat Enin when he was a Local Government Chairman have been vandalized.

On the delay in the flag-off of the earlier scheduled Ibekwe-Akpanya-Ikot Unya-Iffe Town-Ekpuk road, the Onomkpoinam Mkpat Enin said that he was in touch with Governor Umo Eno, who has asked him to assure the people of the area that once the rains subside a bit, the flag-off and construction of the said road will commence.

The top lawmaker equally used the opportunity to announce that contract has also been awarded for the construction of Nung Ukim III-Ikot Ekpe-Ikot Unya; Ikot Umiang junction – Ikot Unya roads, which will interconnect the longer stretch of the Ibekwe-Akpanya-Ikot-Unya-Ekpuk road.

Senator Sampson noted that these two major road projects were key infrastructural interventions which will fast track development not just in Ikpa Ikono clan, but the entire Mkpat Enin as a whole. Sampson is also pursuing other road projects, including opening of access roads to farm settlements across the senatorial district.

It is noteworthy to recall that apart from electricity and water projects in Ikot Unya and Ikot Umiang, Senator Sampson has also facilitated provision of water facilities to Ekpuk, Mkpat Enin Village, Ikot Ekpe, Ukam, Ikot Akpaden, Ikot Essen, among others in Mkpat Enin Local Government Area.

Just last week, an electricity reactivation and restoration project which the Onomkpoinam Mkpat Enin facilitated to Okon Eket, particularly, Ikot Akpandem, was lit and the village is now enjoying good power supply.

The Lawmaker also has another electricity reactivation project in Eyubiasang, Urue Offong Oruko LGA. He has disclosed that steps were being taken to reactivate electricity in other parts of the senatorial district, given the importance of power to the socioeconomic wellbeing of the people.

Apart from these projects, construction of medical facilities in General Hospital, Iquita, Immanuel Hospital, Eket and General Hospital, Ikot Abasi are top on the cards this year. Senator Sampson’s mega empowerment is also coming up within the year.
