Champion Breweries PLC will in the coming months redouble its efforts in touching lives and enhancing the welfare and wellbeing of members of its host community in particular and the State in general.
An insight into the current package as encapsulated by the new ownership Enjoy Corp shows Champion Breweries PLC launched its sustainability strategy, “Brewing a Sustainable Future,” aligned with its Corporate Blueprint. As part of this, their CSR approach was refreshed with the guiding theme “Win with our Communities.” The strategy emphasizes sustained community engagement and outlines plans to establish a Foundation and an Education Trust Fund focused on Education, Water, Sanitation and Health, Youth Empowerment, Talent Development, Job Creation, and Agriculture—all for the betterment of the community and the State.
Available records show that the company has been carrying out its corporate social responsibility with little fanfare but significantly impacting the lives of its Host Community members. These include:
- Successful donation of educational materials (school desks, branded exercise books, teachers’ tables and chairs) to five schools in host and neighbouring communities.
- Career talk in Aka Community Secondary School, Uyo.
- Creation of a bursary database and sponsorship of key events in the education sector in the State.
In Community Relations, the company has:
- Hosted quarterly CSR Framework meetings.
- Sponsored important community events that provide mutual benefit.
- Maintained a peaceful, mutually beneficial relationship with host communities.
- Annually sponsored the Aka Offot Youth Unity Cup competition and other statewide youth events.
Our correspondent also noted that in 2023 specifically, the following were undertaken:
- Introduced a new Bursary Scheme for the Host Community for better monitoring and sustainability.
- Enrolled 10 candidates from host and neighbouring communities for Mechatronics training at NBPLC SCA by mid‑year.
- Partnered with the Industrial Training Fund to enroll candidates in vocational training.
- Continued Career Talks and launched JET Clubs in select secondary schools.
- Inaugurated a JETS Club in Community Secondary School, Aka Offot, following a Career Talk in March 2023.
All these initiatives—and many more to come—our correspondent observes aim to expand the company’s reach to host communities and the State, fostering a continuous, mutually beneficial relationship with all their stakeholders.
