…as Transport Commissioner lauds Gov Eno for Human Capacity Development
In a landmark move to position itself as a premier maritime hub, the Akwa Ibom State Government has dispatched the first batch of youths for specialized training in maritime infrastructure management, marking a critical step towards the smooth commencement of full-scale operations in the sector.
The historic signing of the bond of agreement between the state government and the pioneering trainees took place at the Ministry of Transport in Uyo on Monday, 25th August, 2025, signaling the state’s serious intent to develop its vast blue economy.
Presiding over the ceremony, the State Commissioner for Transport, Dr. Anthony Luke, commended Governor Umo Eno for his visionary and massive investment in the state’s transport infrastructure – land, water and air through the administration’s ARISE Agenda.
Dr. Luke charged the trainees to be exemplary ambassadors of the state, their families and the government throughout the training period. He issued a stern warning against any form of untoward or criminal behaviour.
“I charge you to be of your best behaviour during the duration of the training. Be good ambassadors of the state, the government and your families. The government will not hesitate to recall anyone found culpable of any misconduc” Dr. Luke stated.
He enjoined the youths to seize the rare opportunity to improve their lives and prepare for a brighter future, lauding Governor Eno for prioritizing human capacity development as a cornerstone for a greater Akwa Ibom.
“Remember that Akwa Ibom State is a brand, and we must all protect her image and the integrity of the governor in words and action. The Governor has faith in your ability to handle the task, and you must not disappoint the state and yourself,” Dr. Luke remarked.
Echoing the Commissioner’s sentiments, the Delivery Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Chief Orman Esin, explained that the training was imperative to develop a qualified workforce to manage the state-of-the-art infrastructure being developed by the state government.
“The Marine industry is a very serious and sensitive industry. That is why the Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, deemed it necessary to train Akwa Ibom youths to be able to manage the infrastructures,” Chief Esin said.
He revealed that the state government is currently constructing new ferry boats and revamping other critical assets to ensure a seamless takeoff of marine operations.
“We congratulate you, believing that you will come back with commendation,” Esin added.
The trainees, selected from various local government areas across the state through the ARISE Employment Portal as directed by the governor, expressed profound gratitude for the opportunity.
In a response on behalf of the cohort, the trainees pledged their unwavering loyalty to the state government and vowed to be worthy representatives of Akwa Ibom, committing to excel in their training and return as qualified professionals to drive
the state’s maritime ambitions.
