…as vulnerable households receive palliatives, commend Gov Umo Eno’s food security drive
The third phase of the ARISE Free Food Distribution Programme has been successfully concluded in Ikot Abasi Local Government Area, with thousands of vulnerable households benefiting from the state government’s intervention.
The closing exercise held on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at the Ikot Abasi Council Secretariat, Ikpa Ibekwe, drew a massive turnout of residents from across the local government’s wards.
Recall that Governor Umo Eno had flagged off the third phase of the food security programme on August 20, 2025, in Oron and Urue Offong/Oruko local government areas.
Representing the Governor at the Ikot Abasi distribution, the Honourable Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Princess Emem Ibanga, expressed appreciation to the people of the area for their steadfast support for the administration. She highlighted the Governor’s development strides in the local government and assured residents of more impactful projects.
Princess Ibanga explained that the initiative is targeted at vulnerable families to cushion the effect of rising food prices, while reiterating government’s call for all citizens to embrace farming as the surest path to food availability and affordability.
She further urged eligible residents to take part in the ongoing voter registration exercise and to revalidate their membership with the All Progressives Congress (APC). She also cautioned against fraudsters, noting that government programmes are free and do not require payment from beneficiaries.
Chairman of the local government, Hon. Ime Eshiet, commended Governor Eno for his unwavering commitment to the welfare of citizens, stressing that the palliatives would bring relief to many households.
Excited beneficiaries praised Governor Eno for his food security initiative, noting that the palliatives has brought huge relief to them.
Also present were the General Manager of the Akwa Ibom State Bulk Purchase Agency, Hon. Unyime Etim, alongside council officials and ward personal assistants to the Governor, who supervised the smooth distribution process.
