Akwa Ibom is preparing to host its biggest cultural showcase as Ibom Entertainment Week 2025 takes place from September 10 to 14.Preparations moved into top gear Tuesday with the inauguration of the Central Planning Committee (CPC), marking a major step toward the state’s signature entertainment festival.
Project coordinator and senior special assistant to the governor on entertainment, David Sergeant, popularly known as Utang Akwa Ibom, unveiled the theme: “Arise: Elevate Your Dreams.” He praised Governor Umo Eno for his vision and support, saying the event would highlight Akwa Ibom’s commitment to talent development, tourism, arts, and culture.
The CPC is chaired by gospel singer and entertainment aide, Godfada Uko, with talent manager, Nelson NseAbasi, as secretary. The committee, made up of industry experts and stakeholders, pledged to deliver a festival unlike any other in the state.
Now in its fourth edition, Ibom Entertainment Week will feature masterclasses, a novelty football match, concerts, the ARISE City Walk, Face of Ibom Entertainment pageant, and a dinner and awards ceremony. Nollywood heavyweights are expected to headline, including Directors Guild of Nigeria president Uche Agbo, Patience Ozokwor, Sam Dede, Segun Arinze, Kunle Afolayan and Lancelot Imasuen.
Beyond entertainment, organizers say the event will showcase local creativity, strengthen the state’s tourism and hospitality value chain, and provide training and networking opportunities for young talents.
The inauguration also featured a world press conference attended by Eric Anderson, senior aide to the Senate President and former Cross River commissioner for culture and tourism. Theater lecturers, guild leaders, and coordinators from the 31 local government areas of Akwa Ibom also joined.
