Minister of Federal Capital Territory Bar.Nyesom Ezenwo Wike will on Wednesday inaugurate the 15.13km Ikot Otomo–Azumini Road as part of activities marking the celebration of Akwa ibom state’s creation by Rtd general Ibrahim Babangida in 1987.
The road links the rural communities of Ika local government area of Akwa ibom state and Azumini in Ukwa east local government of Abia state.
Conducting Journalist around the newly completed road in preparation for its commissioning, the senior special assistant to Akwa ibom state governor on Research and Documentation Dr. Essien Ndueso said the governor Pastor Umo Eno takes on projects based on their viability to help the people and not by favoritism.
” This is one road that will help the people of Ika local government and the rest of Àkwa ibom access Aba, the commercial nerve center of the East with ease and in few minutes. Those coming in from Abia state will come into Akwa ibom and hit the state capital in a record time. This project was initiated by the immediate past administration but the current administration completed”
He also disclosed that the State governor does not embark on any project to get applause added that he has constructed one kilometer bye pass leading to the country home of the Minister of State for Gas Obong Ekperikpe Ekpot .
He opined adding that the gesture was to encourage the minister to strive hard to pursue the common interest of the state at the national level without any hindrance.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Ika local government expressed deep-seated gratitude of the people of Ika local government area to governor Umo Eno stressing that the road project is a big relief to the people mostly farmers and other traders who frevently travel to Aba for business transactions.
He averred that the local government area which has been neglected for too long is now getting deserved attention from the state government stressing that the 15.13km Ikot Otomo–Azumini Road will be the first project that will be formally commissioned in the council since its creation.
The chairman thanked the people of Azumini and the government of Abia state for the peaceful coexistence between the two boundary local government area and for their corporation in ensuring the successful linking of the two states through the road project.
” I can tell you that with this road , you can hit Aba Abia state or oyingbo in Rivers state within 30minutes from here. That is the advantage we are now enjoying.
Residents of Azumini who spoke with journalist described the road as a new gate way into Akwa ibom state within minutes and expressed gratitude to governor Umo Eno for the gesture.
Among prominent Akwa ibom citizens expected to join the governor in welcoming the FCT Minister to the state to commission the project include the Minister of state Gas Obong Ekperikpe Ekpo who served as the local government Chairman of the area between 2004;and 2007.
