Etinan Local Government Council has concluded plans to provide bursaries to students from its jurisdiction who are pursuing tertiary education across Nigeria.
Hon. Uko Umoh, the Chairman of the Council, disclosed this during the commissioning of Government Model School, Ikot Isong, in Etinan LGA.
- A total of 500 students have been selected for bursary awards.
- Among them, 20 medical and 20 law students will each receive ₦300,000.00 (Three Hundred Thousand Naira) under the education grant initiative of the current administration.
Education Support Initiatives
- Hon. Umoh, describing himself as a brand manager, also announced the production of 20,000 exercise books to be distributed to all primary schools in the local government.
- Additionally, 250 uniforms will be provided to pupils of the Model School.
- Teachers at Government Model School, Ikot Isong, have also received uniforms through the council’s initiative to enhance their unique appearance.
Acknowledgment of the Governor’s Role
The Chairman expressed gratitude to Gov. Pastor Umo Eno, PhD, calling him “a faithful father and lover of education.”
“Not too long ago you commissioned Ibom Paint Industry here in Etinan and now we are here to commission the best model school in the state… Etinan is happy with your performance as governor of Akwa Ibom State.”
Model School Facilities Overview
Prof. Ubong Umoh, Commissioner for Education, highlighted the upgraded facilities at the newly commissioned Government Model School, including:
- A fully fenced campus with a gatehouse
- Computer laboratory and library
- Sick bay with first aid kits and a nurse on duty
- Early childcare classrooms with modern amenities
- Adequate classrooms aligned to pupil-teacher ratio standards
- A master class auditorium with seating capacity for 500 pupils
- Staff quarters and continuous water supply
- Playground and football field
- Completely solar-powered electricity, no generator or public grid needed
